Lead Source Help Help & Support

See your first lead

The fastest way to trust Lead Source is to send yourself a lead. This takes two minutes.

Before you start: the snippet must be on your site and your page cache cleared.

  1. Go to your live website (the real one, not a preview) and fill in one of your forms as if you were a customer. Use a real email address (yours is fine): an email address is what turns a submission into a lead, so a form filled without one won’t appear.
  2. Open Leads in Lead Source. Your test appears at the top within about 30 seconds.
  3. Click the row. The lead’s panel shows what you typed, where the “visitor” came from, and the pages visited before submitting.

Expected result: your test lead is at the top of the list. Because you went to your own site directly, its source will read Direct: “They typed your address directly or used a bookmark.” That’s correct behaviour, not a fault.

During onboarding, the final step is exactly this test. The screen says “Watching for your first lead…” and detects your submission within seconds, then celebrates with “Your first lead is in!” From then on it’s automatic.

  • Nothing appeared. First check the install itself: Sites → Test installation. If that’s green but leads don’t arrive, the form is the issue, not the snippet. Go to Fix a form that is not being captured.
  • You submitted twice and only one lead appeared. Identical submissions from the same email within a minute are deduplicated. That’s by design, so double-clicks don’t create duplicate leads.
  • You left the email field empty. The submission won’t become a lead. Fill it in and try again.
